ME and Long Covid: Emerging insights in mechanisms and complexity of post-viral fatigue

The 11th Biomedical Research into ME Research Colloquium takes place on 18 - 19 May 2022.
This eleventh international research Colloquium organised by Invest in ME Research will again advance research into myalgic encephalomyelitis by facilitating the sharing of knowledge and collaboration between researchers from around the world.
Due to the continuing pandemic and recent events in Europe the charity, after consultation with researchers, has agreed that #BRMEC11 will be held as a virtual event.

This year a virtual meeting replaces the annual physical meeting.
We hope this approach will aid in linking knowledge and research together in order to assist future discovery.

Bringing Researchers Together

Every Colloquium aims to improve understanding, collaboration and cooperation. In replacing the annual London event with a virtual event we are using a new approach and format to the meeting in order to bring forward new ideas and stimulate discussions between researchers in order to aid everyone researching ME.
With developments around research into Long Covid and with the similarities of some symptoms to those experienced by people with ME then this topic will be also included as a central component of the agenda and a number of hypotheses will be proposed concerning ME and long covid - with a focus on the aetiology of the disease.
The European ME Research Group (EMERG) have again assisted with forming the agenda.

Emerging insights in mechanisms and complexity of post-viral fatigue

With developments around research into Long Covid and with the similarities of some symptoms to those experienced by people with ME then this topic will be also added to the agenda. The knowledge and the road travelled by ME researchers will be discussed as a starting point for understanding long Covid.
The viral and immunological mechanisms behind both of those conditions are the key to making progress.
The Colloquium will have sections on host virus infection, immunity, CNS, mitochondria and energy metabolism, therapeutics - as well as viewing the history of ME in order to aid understanding of long covid.
The most relevant biomedical research initiatives plus other research disciplines sharing knowledge will be present and the event present a unique networking opportunity for researchers, clinicians and students.

Participating in BRMEC11

The annual Invest in ME Research International Biomedical Research Colloquium has been established as a closed symposium for researchers to share data and ideas and is by invitation from the charity and as agreed by with our advisors.
We are interested in progressing our goals of encouraging international collaboration in investigating this disease which will lead to discovery of aetiology and/or development of effective treatments.

Each day consists of sections of presentations covering a theme or hypothesis followed by discussions.

BRMEC COLLOQUIUMS

Invest in ME Research started the international Conferences in 2006 – providing a platform for biomedical research into ME and to allow researchers, clinicians and patients to come together and share experiences and knowledge - and in 2011 we decided to create a forum where international researchers could meet and discuss and collaborate. This formed our Biomedical Research into ME Colloquium – bringing together the best biomedical research and ideas and creating a family of international researchers who could work together.
The Colloquiums are closed research meetings that provide a forum for international researchers to discuss research data, share knowledge and develop ideas around biomedical research into ME and to create the best possible atmosphere for encouraging international collaboration and sharing of ideas.
The Colloquium sees the gathering of the world's biomedical researchers for ME in London with excellent opportunities for networking amongst peers.

The Colloquiums have continued to grow in size every year and now regularly attract researchers from fifteen countries.
The most relevant biomedical research initiatives plus other research disciplines sharing knowledge will be present and the event present a unique networking opportunity for researchers, clinicians and students.
